Growing Up, Growing With, and Growing Young with STP Speakeasy September 30!

speakeasy-web-graphicSince its inception in 2003, so many children have grown up in The Soo Theatre Project. In fact, STP is like a second home!

Many donors and benefactors have grown with The Soo Theatre Project as the STP community mission, theatre productions, and art and music classes expand year after year.

And, many adults are growing young by maintaining their interests in music, learning something new, and volunteering at shows.

Why? Why would parents allow their children to grow up in the Soo Theatre Project? Why would financial supporters continue to grow with STP? Why would adults enjoy growing young at this historic theatre so much?

It’s because what happens at The Soo Theatre Project all year long is simply amazing.

For example…last September the first annual Speakeasy was held and was wildly enjoyed by all! What exactly is a Speakeasy?

From Wikipedia: A speakeasy, also called a blind pig or blind tiger, is an illicit establishment that sells alcoholic beverages. Such establishments came into prominence in the United States during the Prohibition era (1920–1933, longer in some states). During that time, the sale, manufacture, and transportation (bootlegging) of alcoholic beverages was illegal throughout the United States,[1] [2]

Back again Friday, September 30 is this year’s Speakeasy on the STP stage featuring live music by The Late Night Errant Gardeners! Buy your tickets to get the password, wear your flapper dress or come as you are, and enjoy an evening dancing the night away or simply sitting back and taking in the ambiance of the 1920’s. The evening runs from 8-11pm. Guests will enter from Oaka Alley on the backside of the theatre.  Light refreshments and a cash bar will be available, with beer and wine provided by Soo Brewing Company.

What a unique event right here in The Soo. This is just one amazing event at The Soo Theatre Project.

Beginning September 27, Marian MacLeod will be teaching an adult tap dancing class once a week on Tuesdays at 6 pm. Register with STP, purchase tap shoes ahead of time or wear leather shoes to the class, and feel the rhythm as you tap, tap, tap!

For those of you who prefer group lessons like the tap class, The Soo Theatre Project has many other opportunities for you! Some group lessons are just for youth and some are just for adults. You can learn to play the violin, cello, or ukulele at any age. Want to sing in a chorus? STP has that opportunity. There’s a community band as well. Would you like to paint, but don’t know where to begin? Then, definitely begin with Randy Krause’s Arty Parties.

The Soo Theatre Project has so many outlets for arts exploration that there’s no reason to ever have a bored child with after-school beginning strings, youth chorus, group piano, ukulele, and vocal performance group classes.

Of course, you can always opt for private lessons: strings, piano, harp, voice, woodwinds and more. Call the STP office if you have something you’d like to learn and it’s not offered. The Soo Theatre Project is your community-based, arts exploration center!

It’s easy to see why so many people enter the STP doors every day to grow up, grow with, and to grow young. With all of the amazing events, classes, and opportunities held each week at The Soo Theatre Project, there is something for everyone all year long.
