On Sunday, May 20th at 2pm, friends and family will gather at the Soo Theatre to celebrate the life of Taylor Knight Brugman. Brugman, who passed away in December of 2017 at the age of 64, was an integral part of the life of the Soo Theatre Project. The downtown theatre was a second home to the longtime technical director, where he dedicated his passion and knowledge of sound and lights to make the shows at the theatre shine.
Taylor served on the board of directors of the Soo Theatre Project in the early years, was instrumental in the delivery of the major donation received from the Mackinaw Crossings Theatre, including the installation of the 750 theatre seats that currently have their home in the theatre’s main auditorium, and lit up the stage for most of the twelve years since the doors reopened on Ashmun Street in 2005.
Friends and family will speak at the service, sharing remembrances of Taylor; from his time as a floral shop owner in New York State to his time at Kewadin Casinos as Entertainment Director and as a lover of sound. In addition to his technical director role at Soo Theatre, Taylor owned and operated his own recording studio, Lake Street Studios, in Brimley, MI.
Taylor and his wife Liz were supporters of the Arts, not just at the Soo Theatre, but at many of our area arts organizations. Liz and Taylor were regular attendees and supporters of the Chippewa Theatre Guild, Taylor mixed and recorded the audio for The Academy of Performing Arts annual productions, and Liz is the webmaster of the Alberta House Art Gallery. One of Taylor’s last projects was the creation of The Soo Film Festival, which will live on in his name.

Following the service, friends and family are invited to share their memories of Taylor in the lobby. Light refreshments will be served.
