Soo Film Festival Coming to the Soo Theatre September 16-18

The third edition of the Soo Film Festival takes place September 16-18, 2016 at the Soo Theatre. A full weekend of features and shorts from around the world and especially the Great Lakes is waiting for cinema fans of all stripes.

The selected narrative features were all shot around the Great Lakes: Bear With Us in Pennsylvania; Robot Heart in Michigan; Scratch, The Pineville Heist, and Sleeping Giant in Ontario, Canada.

The short submissions were truly a global affair. Films came from as far away as Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

The Soo Theatre has been a source of inspiration for more than one person. Former Sault resident Martin Sweeney submitted his short “CI: A TEDD

Talkumentary.” “…inspired to pursue a film career by the movies I saw at the Red and Blue Theaters, I felt it was my duty and obligation to submit my short film to the festival. I’ve been lucky enough to have carved out a successful career in Hollywood as a screenwriter and now live in San Francisco where I split my time between filmmaking and commercial production.”

All films in every category are eligible for an Audience Award. Judging takes place during the festival. Previous audience favorites like Black Gold (formerly known as America Is Still The Place) and Superior are now finding a wider audience as they move into release on video and iTunes. Black Gold’s

Mike Colter can soon be seen as the hero in the Netflix original series “Luke Cage” based the Marvel comic.

A full list of the movies and the schedule are available on the festival website, soofilmfestival.org. Other events and guests will be announced soon.

Tickets are on sale online at soofilmfestival.org or at the Soo Theatre office located at 534 Ashmun Street. Ticket prices are $7 General Admission (per block), $5 Seniors and Students (per block); $20 Daily Pass (admission to all blocks on a single day); $50 Festival Pass (admission to all films and shorts programs, all days).
