Soo Songwriting Contest Deadline Approaches

Composers! Creatives! Collaborators!
Get those creative juices flowing and join in the fun!

The Soo Songwriting contest is open to anyone who would like to submit a song about the Soo!  There is one simple rule. Your song must contain the name of the town. The Soo. Or Sault Ste. Marie. Or both. You’re the creative!!! You decide.

Contest submissions should be received by May 31st.

Finalists will be invited to perform their song on the 350th Anniversary Music Celebration at Soo Theatre on Thursday, June 21st at 7:30pm.

If you are unable to attend the performance on the 21st it may be possible to play a recording of your piece. Either way, you can still be among the winners.

We are very excited to join in the festivities surrounding this landmark anniversary of 350 years!  The musical celebration on June 21st will celebrate music, creativity and the history of this town that was established in 1668!

The songwriting contest will be a fun focus of the celebration. Kids should be encouraged to enter with a little ditty. Adults who like to parody existing songs should not be afraid to enter. We want to have fun on this concert and present stories and music about Sault Ste. Marie. And of course, composers who want to compose the next official song in 2018 should definitely apply!!!

A $25 entry fee can be paid to Soo Theatre by mail at 534 Ashmun Street, Sault Ste. Marie, MI, 49783 or choose PayPal online at www.sootheatre.org. Just enter the amount and include Songwriting Contest.

The vocal workshop, the chamber music camp, and the beginning strings camp are also unique because they include not just our youth, but are open to adults as well.  Get the whole family involved.

Private lessons on various instruments are also available during the summer.  Call the office to see what is being offered.

Parent/Child Violin Class

We are looking for parents who wish to learn the violin with their 3-5 year old child!  If you would be interested in learning violin simultaneously with your child, call the office and ask to be put on our interest list.  If we have enough interest, we will run a class this summer.
