Tour of Homes: 501 Sheridan Dr.

Spacious, visual, and fun, 501 Sheridan Drive is a beautiful home filled with exposed stone of the past, nooks and crannies at every turn, and grand views of the outdoors literally at every step.

This home once belonged to Judge Steer, who had a law library in the home (c 1890). His books were the beginning of Sault Sainte Marie’s Carnegie Library and today’s current Bayliss Library.

This house of seven bedrooms, four fireplaces, four and a half bathrooms, and nearly 5,000 square feet, boasts wide open spaces. One can easily visualize a large holiday gathering upon entering the house. Multiple, large windows, a grand fireplace, and a full bathroom add to this expansive great room.

(These stones match the front porch’s stone arches which can be viewed from opening the front door in the first floor sitting room.) In this section of the home is the newly renovated kitchen with stainless steel appliances, an attractive black, gray, and white backsplash, more exposed stone, and a bay window complete with pillows that beg homeowners and visitors alike to relax and enjoy the nature view.

The dining room, with three large picture windows, leads to a sitting room with yet another large picture window and a gas fireplace as well as leads to a bedroom/possible study on the first floor. A fun house fact: Open the closet door near the bathroom and you can see through to the stone wall area. The now storage closet appears to have been a doorway at one time!

Upstairs, the first door on the right is the roomy master bedroom complete with his and hers closets. From one of the many large windows, notice the beautiful design of the roof shingles below. The spacious master bathroom includes a Jacuzzi tub and double sinks.

Two of the upstairs bedrooms have deep closets with carpeted ledges. One upstairs bedroom has a cork wall while several rooms have pine-lined nooks with mini ceiling fans. The spacious laundry room is also on the second floor.

The third floor is a child’s dream playroom with two carpeted areas, one of which is accessible by way of a large crawl-through. One can imagine a grand game of hide-n-seek throughout the entirety of this magnificent home!

Note: Use the alley driveway entrance. Use caution with the exterior stone walkway as some stones are uneven, interior steps and staircases as some are without railings, and multiple interior inclined hallways.
