Vintage Vinyl, Moments to Remember! To Kick Off STP Season Ticket

Do any of these song titles bring back memories? Under the Boardwalk,” “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do,” or “In My Room.”

How about these song titles? “When I’m Sixty-Four,” “Devoted to You,” “That’ll Be the Day,” “I Don’t Know Why,” and “Bye Bye Love.

These songs and more are coming to you at The Soo Theatre Project on Saturday,

May 30. Once again, this annual performance by The Lock Cities Chorus and The Northland Barbershop Chorus brings you incredible vocal talent as they sing those wonderful songs that bring back memories so vividly.

Every year, two fabulously talented barbershop groups begin The Soo Theatre Project’s summer season of performances with two-in-one theatrical show of barbershop. And, every year it is a performance not to miss!

seasonticket2015whiteThis show is also the first on STP’s Season Ticket, which includes this fabulous production, “Camelot,” “Don Giovanni,” and the “Mike Dempsey Show.”

The theme for both shows is memories and how songs can “take us back” to that special time and place. Allow this one-night-only event to transport you back in time as you hear these songs.

The Lock Cities Chorus’ show title is “Moments to Remember.” These ladies sing the songs that are representative of what director Linda Sirie states, “…we were doing at a certain time, songs that remind us of where we were, and songs that tell who we were. Sharing our music will create yet another memory for us and our audience!”

The Northland Barbershop Chorus’ show title is “Vintage Vinyl.” These gentlemen sing the songs from the late 50’s and early 60’s. Show director Bob Shami explains it this way: “Not only are songs from this era particularly fun to sing, they seem to connect in a personal way with our audiences….”

The Northland Barbershop Chorus’ show includes an original one-act play. Characters “Rhonda” and “Ritchie” were high school sweethearts and married in 1967. After 48 years of marriage, Ritchie needs to be reminded of his love for Rhonda and life in general.

Music is the key to returning that love to this grumpy character. Artists such as Buddy Holly, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Temptations help Ritchie remember who he really is and his love for Rhonda. Come rediscover your love of life through music, too!

As an extra special feature of this performance on May 30, a quartet formed from members of the The Northland Barbershop Chorus, called Solid Ground, will perform two songs including “Pretty Woman.

Both barbershop groups are always looking for singers who’d like to join the fabulous world of barbershop. Find more information at www.northlandchorus.com and www.sweetadelineintl.org
