Walking Zombies, Square Dancing, Fun Movies, and Kids’ Painting at STP!

By Lizabeth Jenkins-Dale / October 23, 2016

Kathy Flickinger, The Mighty Mistress of Scare, has created another masterpiece in The Soo Theatre Project’s historic theatre, and this year it is BIG TOP TERROR! STP will present its annual haunted theater in conjunction with the Downtown Trick-Or-Treating event from 5-7pm on Friday, October 28.

The BIG TOP TERROR haunted theatre doesn’t happen without the help of many volunteers. Girls Scouts, Sault High School Drama Club, and Service Learning volunteers all will be assisting with the haunted theatre. Some of them may be clowns! Or, some of them may be the haunted theatre route guides; there are many opportunities to help.

There is SO more in store on this special night of fright! Popcorn! Soo Theatre Project prepares over 1500 bags of popcorn to serve the downtown trick or treaters. So even if you don’t want to be scared in BIG TOP TERROR at the theatre, stop by for some popcorn.

AND, following the haunted theatre tours from 5-7, the Soo Theatre Project, in partnership with the Soo Film Festival and the Zombie Walk for Autism will be hosting a special tour through BIG TOP TERROR Haunted Theatre for zombie walk participants. Then, the Zombies will take part in their annual costume contest followed by a showing of the movie “Zoombies” Register for the zombie walk at http://cornerpieces.org.

zoombiesBen Duff, creator of the charity Corner Pieces and the annual Zombie Walk For Autism, has arranged the showing of “Zoombies” at STP through his friends who created the film. The “Zoombies” showing is open to the public.

“Zoombies” is a film about…you guessed it zombies at the zoo! Zoombies is a 2016 American film directed by Glenn R. Miller and written by Scotty Mullen. The story follows a small staff and some visitors of a to-be-opened zoo affected by a mysterious virus which turns the animals into meat-seeking aggressive zombies. (Wikipedia)

Friday, October 28th is the night for lots of good fun: the BIG TOP TERROR haunted theatre, popcorn, zombie walk, zombie costume contest, and the “Zoombies” movie!

Just one week after Halloween is a square dancing STP event on November 4th. Ken Miller, the executive director at STP, has been a professional square dance caller for three decades. He will be calling the dancing moves again Friday, November 4th at 7pm at Northern Life Studios. No experience and no partner necessary to enjoy this fun type of organized dancing. Come and enjoy this great exercise called square dancing. $10 per person or $15 per couple.

Future movies include: October 28 “Zoombies” at the Haunted Soo Theatre with the Zombie Walk for Autism, October 29 “The Raven” (1935) and “Tales of Terror,” November 4,5 “The Martian” and “Wall-E,” November 11,12 “Captain America: Civil War” and “Jungle Book” (2016), and November 18,19 “Mary Poppins” and “Thelma and Louise.” More information can be found at SooFilmFestival.org and facebook.com/SooFilmFestival.
