Brenda Brow’s House

The old saying goes, “While the cat’s away, the mice will play.” While my husband went hunting in Newberry, I saw this home was for sale and decided to take a look. We had wanted something closer to town, so I set up an appointment to check it out.  After looking at it, I fell in love and knew that with some updates, it could be just what we were looking for. I wrote up a purchase offer and it was accepted. So I had to call him and tell him to come home because I just bought a house and the rest is, as they say, “history!”

This home has turned into everything we wanted. It has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a finished basement. It sits on approximately two acres of property, surrounded by trees that protect our privacy, with a blacktop driveway that leads to the house itself. We are located in the city limits, but have that country living feel and charm we enjoy.

Having a creative mind for décor has led to many changes over the years.  First small ones, then followed by removing kitchen cupboards over the bar to give it that open concept from the kitchen to the dining room, installing hardwood floors throughout the dining room and living room, and adding custom solid surface counter tops in the kitchen.

In the master suite, we added new flooring in the bedroom and bathroom and installed a tile walk-in shower that is six feet long. It’s just wonderful to use!  Upstairs have been mostly cosmetic improvements such as paint, but we also have turned one of the bedrooms into an office for my husband’s business.  The improvements end with landscaping around the home, adding flair and appeal.

Interior and exterior colors tend to change continuously, leading guests to comment that the house is never the same for two visits.  So with that energy and a dramatic flair for decorating (and Pinterest), I have designed each room to flow into the next with their color schemes.

For example, we will have greens and gold lining the stairway, entry way, and flowing into the living room. There will be a tree decorated in green with snaps of red.  Each room will have arrangements that I have designed to coordinate the flow of color as well.  From there you will step into the dining/kitchen area where the table will glisten and sparkle with white and red. Also, a white Christmas tree will be filled with birds of many colors!  The master suite will adorn black and silver accents and pick up the white from the kitchen. Finally, the upstairs, which will utilize the green and gold theme from the entry way, will work itself into beautiful browns with gold accents.

We are very proud of our home and have spent many hours, as I am sure we all have, preparing it for this Soo Theatre Holiday Tour of Homes and Tea for the Christmas season. We sincerely hope you enjoy our home and welcome you into it.

We want to wish everyone a safe and Happy Holiday season,

Brenda and Dean Brow
