“Carmen, ” a French opera by Georges Bizet, has everything an audience could want: romance, jealousy, murder, conflict, adventure, and arranged marriage. “Carmen” offers a variety of characters: soldiers, a provocative gypsy, tobacco factory workers, and smugglers. All excellent elements of a great story expressed in song!

The highly praised “Carmen” opera music has received accolades for decades and has been performed on stages since 1875. Many well-known theatres throughout the United States continue to perform “Carmen” to this day.

When Opera Charleston in Charleston, SC made its debut in March 2012, it chose “Carmen” for its initial performance, which attracted the famous Metropolitan Opera star Denyce Graves. With certainty, “Carmen” is an established popular success in the world of opera. And now, you can experience this creative wonder yourself at The Soo Theatre Project this August 6, 8, and 10.
