Community is Everything to STP!

Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes community to nurture a vibrant town. The Soo Theatre Project is so humbly proud and extraordinarily excited to be collaborating with the many organizations, businesses, and people of its Eastern UP communities and neighboring Canadian city.

Here are just a few examples of such collaboration!

  • The Youth Advisory Council (YAC), part of the Chippewa County Community Foundation, presented The Soo Theatre Project $800 scholarship monies for camps this past summer. Seven children benefited and experienced art, dance, music, and theatre.
  •  The City of Sault Ste. Marie’s Community Services Board contributed $5,500 to STP’s youth programs teaching all of the arts.
  •  sault symphony orchestraFor years now The Sault Symphony of Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario and The Soo Theatre Project have collaborated such as when STP borrows the symphony’s movie screen like it did this past summer for the first annual Soo Film Festival.
  •  And, Soo Theatre Project orchestra players join The Sault Symphony for an annual performance on STP’s historic stage. This year’s performance on Saturday, September 27 at 8 pm called “A Night in Old Vienna” is The Sault Symphony’s opening night of its 42nd season!

Sault Symphony’s Music Director and Conductor John Wilkinson is no stranger to Soo Theatre Project’s stage as he has conducted for many STP performances. As an extra feature during the performance on September 27, John Wilkinson will lead the symphony to play on stage and will invite audience members to dance in the pit area for a few specific songs.

From the Sault Symphony website: “This evening features the music of Johann Strauss, Jr. with other selections by Richard Strauss (from Four Last Songs) and Fritz Kreisler (Three Old Viennese Dances).” Bring your dancing shoes with you!

War Memorial Hospital’s “Restore The Roar” annual success presentation on Wednesday, September 24 will be held in STP’s theatre. When the hospital brings in someone like author, presenter, and inspirer Marilyn Sherman to The Soo, War Memorial Hospital needs lots of space and STP has it!

“Marilyn Sherman inspires people to increase productivity, reduce conflict and improve results by helping people get out of their comfort zone, overcome obstacles and get a front-row seat in life!”

“Restore The Roar” is open to the public for three events: 8 am, 2:30 pm, and 7:30 pm. Contact Julie Coneset at jconeset@wmhos.org for tickets to Marilyn Sherman’s “Get Your Front Row Seat in Life!”
