Fall registration is here! New dance classes, music lessons, and string ensembles are starting this week. The Soo Theatre Project, Inc. and STARS are proud to introduce the instructors and staff for the 2015 – 2016 season.
STARS Music Director, Dottie Case has an active studio of private students which she instructs in violin, viola, and piano. This will be Dottie’s 10th year as the Director of the STARS Youth Orchestra, which has developed and grown into two groups, the STARS Youth Orchestra and the STARS Advanced Orchestra. She also directs the adult strings orchestra, The New Horizons and this year has added an additional adult group, the Beginner String Ensemble. Cello, viola, violin, and bass instructor Maggie Twining has a growing studio at the Soo Theatre. In addition to a large studio of private students, Maggie is the director of the adult cello group, Cantus Celli. A youth cello group, the Soo Cello Crew, and the STARS Youth Orchestra are also under the direction of Maggie Twining. Ben Gulder specializes in Suzuki violin instruction for younger students. He is a talented violinist offering private lessons in both violin and fiddling. Ben offers a Suzuki violin group geared for young violin students. This fall the Soo Theatre is able to continue providing private string instruction to students in Cedarville, MI. STARS is able to offer piano lessons for all ages with piano instructors Betty Struble and Ronda McGreevy. In addition to teaching piano, Ronda offers private lessons in guitar and ukulele, as well as private vocal lessons.
STARS is excited to offer music, dance, and movement classes for all ages 3 and up! Saturday mornings at STARS will start with a First Steps in Music class geared toward toddlers and preschoolers. This class will be followed by a second First Steps in Music class set for preschool and early elementary aged children. Cathy Wilkinson will be teaching both First Steps classes that will expose children to a variety of musical elements through songs, rhymes, movement activities, and small classroom instruments.
The Soo Theatre Dance Program welcomes students age 3-5 1/2 to enroll for a Pre-ballet class taught by instructor Alison Cheney. Alison also teaches a Ballet I class for ages 6-9 and an Intermediate Ballet and Pointe class is open to students with instructor approval. For students ages 5-9 Jenna Perry offers a Ballet I class and Tap I class. An Intro to Acro and Hula-hoop is available to students ages 7-9 and an advanced Acro and Hula-hoop Recreation class is offered for ages 10 and up. Both Acro and Hula classes are under the instruction of Rachael Smart. New to STARS Dance Program this year is a POMS class instructed by Amanda Kemp geared towards students age 8-12.
Upcoming Events
The Soo Theatre works with the drama students at Sault Area High School to host the thrilling Haunted Theatre. This year the Haunted Theatre will take place on October 30th. Following the theme of this summers Soo Theatre Production of Camelot, the Haunted Theatre will transport those who enter into a world of medieval hauntings!
November 14th and 15th will mark the dates of the Soo Theatre’s first Murder Mystery Dinner of the 2015-2016 season! Join us at the Elks lodge on Portage where dinner guests will solve the mystery of the Murder on FLIGHT 906. Tickets will be available for sale November 2nd and can be purchased from the Soo Theatre Office at 906-632-1930.
