May 7th Senior Recitals
May 11th Faculty & Friends Recital
Soo Theatre presents their annual Festival Orchestra Concert directed by Dottie Case & Maggie Twining. This concert will feature STARS Youth Orchestras, Soo Cello Crew, and special guests, JKL Bahweting Orchestra directed by Cathy Wilkinson.
STARS Youth Orchestras have 3 levels; early, intermediate, and advanced. These groups provide strings students an opportunity to play in a stringed orchestra and learn to follow a conductor. Soo Cello Crew is a group of youth cello students who play in ensemble together without a conductor. Students will perform classic pieces, as well as folk and fiddle tunes! STARS Graduating Seniors will be featured in some of the musical selections, including one that is sure to make you laugh! The performance will be on the historic Soo Theatre stage on Monday, April 30th at 7:00 pm. Admission is by donation.
Later the same week, Friday, May 4th, STARS annual Spring Recitals will take place on the stage. Students from the early beginner to the advanced older student will present their work on one of the recitals. Two different performances are presented; one at 5:00pm and the second one at 7:00pm. Both programs contain a mix of levels and experience. Admission is by donation.
A new tradition is being planned this year to feature graduating seniors in mini recitals to show their progress through the education programs at the Soo Theatre. Senior Recitals will take place Monday, May 7th at 7:00 pm. This recital will feature Soo Theatre & STARS high school seniors: Hannah Brood, piano; Sophia Kowalski, violin & piano; Jamie Sheppard, violin & piano; and Griffin Zajkowski, cello. All four of our graduating seniors will play individually, as well as join together to play 5 Dances by Beethoven for Piano Trio. A small reception with cake and punch will follow the performances in the lobby. Soo Theatre’s Senior Recital will be performed on the Historic Soo Theatre Stage. Admission is by donation.
On May 11th, the Faculty & Friends Recital features STARS and Soo Theatre faculty and staff members Karen Hughes Beacom, harp, piano and voice; Meg Boucher, flute; Dottie Case, violin, viola, and clarinet; Benjamin Gulder, viola; Lola Kennedy, voice; Betty Struble, piano; Maggie Twining, cello and more! This is a chance for students, parents, and community members to enjoy the talents of the faculty and staff of the Soo Theatre Project. Be sure to come early and listen to the Flute Choir play for 15-20 minutes prior to the Faculty Recital. This performance is Friday, May 11th at 7:30 pm. Admission is by donation.
