Hauntings and Happenings at the Soo Theatre

MedievalMadness2015As the days of October are quickly coming to an end, and Halloween is on the horizon, there are exciting activities for everyone downtown at the Soo Theatre. This is the second year that the Haunted Theatre theme will take a nod from the summer season. The historic theatre will be transformed into a medieval castle during the Downtown Trick or Treating event on Friday, October 30 from 5-7pm. “Medieval Madness” will take those brave enough to enter back through time–through the marketplace, the great hall, and the dank and dark passageways and beyond. Patrons will go where they have never gone before. Who will survive the ruthless ruler and the maladies of the day?

This tour guided event includes uneven surfaces, several stairs, and special effects lighting and sound. It is not recommended for individuals with pacemakers, a history of epilepsy, pregnant women, children in strollers, or individuals with a medical condition making it difficult to navigate the course. Admission is $3 per person, and tickets can be purchased from the theatre ticket booth beginning at 4:30pm. Doors will open at 5pm. Parental discretion is advised.

DIf the Haunted Theatre is not for you–don’t fret! Enjoy the “mannequins” in the windows, guarded by medieval sentries, and then pick up some complimentary popcorn inside Studio D , from the I-500 princesses and the Chippewa County Fair Queen. Don’t forget to bring your camera for a special, family friendly, photo opportunity!

This always enjoyable, artistic expression event is brought to the community through partnerships with Sault High Drama and Service Students, LSSU choir (under the direction of our very own, Karen Hughes Beacom), dedicated Soo Theatre volunteers, and new this year, I-500 and Chippewa County Fair royalty and the LSSU co-ed fraternity , Alpha Phi Omega.

Randy has been painting for many years and loves to teach others. “These parties are quite an experience providing an opportunity to learn a variety of techniques and complete their own picture in a comfortable relaxed environment. All materials are provided at these parties. We make it easy to step into a hobby without the normal upfront material expenses.” Pre-registration is required to ensure all materials are ready for painters. Classes are $30 per person. Today’s class at 2pm will feature a warm sunset scene while next week’s class will be on Wednesday, November 4th at 7pm, and will showcase a landscape of Tahquamenon Falls. Both classes will use acrylic paints on canvas and be conducted at the Soo Theatre Arts Resource Studios (STARS) Studio C.

So, if you are one of those people who always wanted to give this a try, call the Soo Theatre Project’s STARS office at 906-632-1930 to register.
