In The Spotlight: STARS Student Iyla Beaulieu

The Soo Theatre has a busy week ahead and STARS student Iyla Beaulieu will be a part of it all.  This young singer will perform this Monday at the “Indian Tacos with Señor Santa” dinner at the Elk’s Lodge and will sing at the “tea” portion of the Tour of Homes where her family home will also be featured.

Iyla, a third grader at Bahweting Schools, has been taking voice lessons at STARS since she was six years old. Six is not the average, nor recommended age, to start actual voice lessons, but this child wanted to sing.   At this young age it was never a problem to keep Iyla singing for a thirty-minute lesson.  From an instructional point of view, the most important thing is to simply sing; to learn how to follow the piano, to accurately match the pitch and to produce a healthy sound that will not impede future progress.

So sing is what she has done! Iyla knows where all the songbooks are in the studio.  She confidently arrives at all her scheduled lessons and takes just about every offer to sing that is presented to her – even the Haunted Theatre where she dressed and sang as Wednesday Addams and, though not keen on being scared, was actually okay being a part of the scaring crew!

In addition to the voice studio, Iyla is quite at home on the Soo Theatre stage.  With her resume already filling with shows such as “Carmen,” “Camelot,” “Annie Jr.,” “101 Dalmatians,” in addition to other summer camp shows, Music in the Parks and bi-annual recitals, it will be quite exciting to follow this one as she continues to pursue her love of singing and stagecraft.

Come out and catch Iyla along with her fellow studio members and teachers at the ELKS and THE TOUR OF HOMES TEA.  Details for each of the upcoming events are listed below!  Celebrate the sounds of the season with The Soo Theatre Project.
