Last Call for Soo Theatre’s Season Ticket

Season-Ticket-straightFour great shows!  One great price! Entertainment for all!

The first show of the season ticket is just around the corner so the time is now to get in on the savings.

The Northland Barbershop Chorus and the Lock Cities Chorus of Sweet Adeline’s International will present their annual double bill next Saturday, May 30 at 8pm.  (Please note the 8pm start to accommodate and honor those attending the Memorial Day Parade.)

Each year these two fabulous vocal groups present a double bill.  This May you will hear “Vintage Vinyl” from the Barbershop Chorus and “Moments to Remember” performed by the Sweet Adeline’s.  This benefit for The Soo Theatre Project is a great pairing of two talented and high-spirited groups.

The second show on the ticket is the Lerner and Loewe musical “Camelot” July 9-12.  Under the direction of Brian Miller and Karen Hughes Beacom with the orchestra prepared and conducted by Dr. John Wilkinson of the Sault Symphony Orchestra, these seasoned performers will bring you a show to be remembered.

With a stage cast of nearly forty performers and an orchestra of strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion, this show has it all.  A strong cast led by Miller as King Arthur, an excellent musical score, and favorite tunes such as “If Ever I Would Leave You” and the famous “Camelot” all point to an exciting production.

The third show on the ticket is Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” August 5, 7, and 9. Based on the infamous Don Juan character, this opera is one of the most widely performed in the repertoire.  It is also the tenth fully staged opera with orchestra performed by the Soo Opera, our local opera company started right here at the Soo Theatre.

With a professional cast of singers from around the country, supplemented by our talented local students and community members, this annual production is one of the most unique and highly acclaimed performances of the season.

This year’s guest artist’s are Sean Anderson as Don Giovanni, Sarah Gartshore as Donna Elvira, Glenn Seven Allen as Don Ottavio, Karen Hughes Beacom as Donna Anna,  Thomas Gunther as Masetto, Dawn Pawlewski Krogh and Zerlina, Markel Reed as Leporello  and Brace Negron as Commendatore.  Join these singers as we celebrate ten years of this great art form in Sault Ste. Marie.

The fourth and final performance on the Season Ticket is Mike Dempsey and Friends in “A Tribute to Judy Garland” on Thursday, September 3. This year Mike will perform in this annual benefit concert with his colleagues and friends Linda Freeze and John Young as they sing the songs of the beloved Judy Garland.

IMG_0561The Dempsey show is an absolute favorite in Sault Ste. Marie with his creatively narrated collections of songs from what seems like the entire American Songbook, a title that was actually used for one of his shows.  Past Dempsey nights have been filled with the music of George and Ira Gershwin, An Evening at the Oscar’s, and the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Mike Dempsey is a genius at crafting an entertaining evening of song weaved together by great storytelling and his piano playing personality that is like no other.
