Make plans with the Soo Theatre

STARS Ambassadors Workshop comes to Soo Theatre on Tuesdays in April. Led by Amanda Kemp, the sessions are for girls 8-12 years of age and will cover public speaking, posture, essay writing, and public presentation skills, culminating in a Tea Party, Fashion Show, and Parent Showcase. Contact Soo Theatre at 906-632-1930 for registration information. The first class will be held on April 14.

Rehearsals are underway for STARS Faculty Recital on April 10, at 7:30 pm, in beautiful St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral.  The combination of talented musicians and excellent acoustics in this lovely venue will make this a highlight of the STARS year.  The concert will be repeated in Cedarville for music-lovers in our ‘southern end’ at 4:00 pm at the First Union Church.

Annie BoxTickets are on sale now for “Annie Junior.” Performances are on April 24 and 25 at 7pm and April 26 at 3pm and 7pm on the theatre stage at 534 Ashmun Street.  This is the first Spring presentation of the STARS Youth Theatre, with cast members ranging from five years old through high school, including 29 orphans!

Music lessons have begun in Cedarville at Les Cheneaux Community Schools. Through this newly formed partnership with the school, The Soo Theatre, EUP’s regional, non-profit arts organization, will be able to provide easier access to arts instruction for students in the southern part of the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Violin, cello, and bass teacher Maggie Twining and violin instructor Benjamin Gulder are currently available to teach strings in the Cedarville area, with lessons from these instructors already underway. Piano and voice are just a few of the other offerings we aspire to bring soon to our neighbors to the south.

STARS Annual Dance Show “Get Rhythm” will be held on Saturday, May 9th on our very own STP stage. The program will feature over fifty dance students of Jenna Perry, Kimmi Jodoin, Rachel Smart, and Alison Cheney, in ballet, tap, and jazz, as well as acro and hula-hoop. The show will be high-energy and fun, anchored by a tap duet by Jenna Perry and Kishe Wallace.

STARS Festival Orchestra Concert will take the stage on Sunday, May 10th at 4pm with Dottie Case and Maggie Twining directing. The STARS Youth Orchestra will welcome special guests from the JKL Bahweting Orchestras.

STP will be the location for the monthly social gathering of The Young Professionals on May 28th. This month’s event will feature The Young Professionals Trivia Tournament. If you would like to hold your personal or business event at The Soo Theatre, please contact our business manager at our main office. If you would like to participate in Sault Ste. Marie’s Young Professionals, please contact Joshua MacDonald, located at 545 Ashmun Street – across the street from the theatre.

Stay tuned for our complete season lineup and much more to come at The Soo Theatre Project in 2015.
