Meet STP Ballroom Dance Instructor Joe Sbar!

The best teachers are those with passion for their craft whether it be mathematics, science, art, music, or dance. Joe Sbar has passion for ballroom dancing!

This passion began years ago. At Michigan State University, without prior experience, Joe started dancing and began performing in open competitions within four months. Now, that’s passion!

Untitled-1Joe danced competitively until the spring of 2013 when his dance partner moved to South Carolina. He has remained active in competition by participating in the EUP Hospice Dancing with the Stars event both as a contestant and as a coach.

Joe recognizes the interest in ballroom dancing within the community and is excited to offer his support to dancers of all levels of interest and experience – from those looking to learn a few casual steps to those hoping to compete one day.

Also responding to the great interest for Hospice’s Dancing With The Stars annual event each October, The Academy of Performing Arts and The Soo Theatre Project are teaming to offer three ballroom dancing workshops November 6, 13, 20 from 8:00 to 9:30 pm at the Big Bear with Joe Sbar as the instructor!

These Thursday evenings will provide dancers of any experience level to learn the basic steps of three popular dances: Salsa, Cha Cha, and East Coast Swing. (One dance each evening.)

During the hour and half lesson, Joe Sbar will begin with the basic steps and then teach additional dance moves as the class is comfortable. No experience or partner is necessary. Bring a pair of socks unless you have dance shoes.

From the EUP Home Health & Hospice website:

“Joe Sbar has been a resident of Sault Ste Marie since 2011.  A native of Menominee, Michigan, he graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2009, a master’s degree in School Psychology in 2010, and an Education Specialist degree in School Psychology in 2012.  He works as a School Psychologist with the Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District.”

Learning to ballroom dance provides confidence for weddings and other social situations. It’s thrilling to move smoothly on the dance floor with ease. Ballroom dancing is a desirable activity that provides excellent exercise while elevating the mind, body, and soul.

This November is your opportunity, so call The Soo Theatre Project today to register for ballroom dancing with Joe Sbar!
