By Lizabeth Jenkins-Dale

Ladies, looking for a one-of-a-kind shopping experience right here in The Soo? Look no further than The Second Hand Rose Tea and Luncheon on Saturday, September 21. The Country Club Bridge Group graciously sponsors this fundraiser event for The Soo Theatre Project. And, many are thankful … The Second Hand Rose Tea and Luncheon has returned to The Soo!

What’s better than just shopping? A delicious meal and shopping! This fabulous occasion involves a three-course luncheon including dessert. But, what’s even better than a delicious meal and shopping? A delicious meal, shopping, and entertainment! Vocalists Maureen Delaney-Lehman and Karen Hughes Beacom will be sharing their talents during this exceptional event.

There will be time for previewing the items for sale so attendees can contemplate their purchases. Luxurious table centerpieces will go home with lucky ladies whose numbers are drawn, and rumor has it that these centerpieces usually include pricey pocketbooks. Of course, the main event is shopping. Ladies, this is your opportunity to purchase gently used high-end clothing and accessories at bargain prices!

The Second Hand Rose Tea and Luncheon tickets are available (limited number) at The Soo Theatre Project office located on Ashmun Street in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., or by calling (906) 632-1930. The theatre is accepting donations of gently used, high-end women’s clothing for all sizes and seasons to be sold at the tea and luncheon on Saturday, September 21.

Kaleidoscope! The Sault Symphony Orchestra will be performing on Saturday, September 28 at 8 p.m. “Kaleidoscope,” the theme of the evening, will provide contrasting musical selections – meaning one piece will noticeably vary from the next piece and so forth, thus creating a kaleidoscope experience. The audience can expect to hear favorite songs from previously performed musicals and operas on The Soo Theatre Project’s historic stage such as Fiddler On The Roof, South Pacific, Carousel, The Marriage of Figaro, and Hansel and Gretel. Other musical pieces will include Broadway show tunes, familiar pops songs, and well-known classical works by master composers like Beethoven and Mozart. A full symphony will be assembled, which will include members of the The Soo Theatre Project’s STARS Advanced Youth Orchestra and The New Horizons Strings Group. Tickets are available at the door, at The Soo Theatre Project office, or online at www.saultsymphony.com.

Rotary! Sunday, October 6 at 2 p.m. is the Rotary Show of Shows. Since its inception in 2008, the Sault Ste. Marie Rotary Club and the Chippewa Sunrise Rotary Club have sponsored this popular variety show style event. The Rotary Show of Shows includes local entertainers, singers, dancers, actors, and much, much more! Previous shows have included performers from The Soo Theatre Project’s Footlight Dancers, STARS dancers, singers, and musicians, LSSU students, and Sault Area Schools students as well as Rotarians performing skits. Tickets for the Rotary Show of Shows are available at The Soo Theatre Project office or at the door. Money raised from this event goes to support a special Rotary fund promoting the arts.

Halloween! After great success last year, The Soo Theatre Project is proud to offer its “Haunted Theatre” on Friday, October 25, starting at 5 p.m. during The Downtown Development Authority’s Trick or Treating event. Come and venture into the old historic theatre for a unique haunted experience!

Holidays! Sault Ste. Marie’s winter wonderland will be here sooner than later, so plan now to make these delightful two events a special part of embracing what makes Sault Ste. Marie extraordinary: The Christmas Concert at the LSSU Arts Center on Saturday, December 7, and The Holiday Tour of Homes and Tea on Sunday, December 15. Both of these events bring out the magic of the holiday season.

The Soo Theatre Project is an educational, teaching, and entertainment resource. We are pleased to offer multiple community opportunities year-round. Come, enjoy, participate, and appreciate the talents of those in your beloved Sault Ste. Marie!
