Shhh! STP Speakeasy open on Sept. 18th

SpeakeasyFULLWhen Merchants lock their doors and the street lights go on in downtown Sault Sainte Marie Friday, September 18th, the lights will go up and the joint will start to jump as the Soo Theatre Project brings its first Speakeasy fundraising event to the Soo Theatre.

The Soo Theatre, which opened in 1930 in the final years of prohibition, is the perfect venue to recreate that racy tradition of illegal juice joints and jazz clubs that would appear for a Friday night in basements and businesses across these “dry” United States then be gone with the sun during the Roaring Twenties.

Ticket holders to the Soo Theatre Speakeasy event will receive a password that will get them in the backdoor of the theatre. From that sly and sneaky beginning, guests will enjoy a night of vintage music, dancing and refreshment on the transformed Speakeasy stage, hosted by Steve and Christine Kois. The Errant late Night Gardeners, an instrumental and vocal trio known for their lilting repertoire of popular music from the era, will play for guests throughout the evening. Karen Beacom and Lola Kennedy will provide additional music as guests arrive and depart. The LSSU Dance Troupe will arrive early and cut a rug to inspire the rest of the crowd to get up and get into the music. Light refreshments will be provided through donation by the Soo Theatre Project and 1668 Winery and the Lockside Brewery will smuggle in the goods for a cash bar.

So bring your Sheba, bring your Sheik, and don’t forget the password! Feel free to dress like you’re going to party with Jay Gatsby. It’s going to be a night to remember and only one—Friday, September 18th from 8-11pm. Tickets are $40.00 and are available at the Soo Theatre Box Office downtown.
