Yes, it isn’t snowing anymore here in Sault Sainte Marie, but the song lyrics still apply to The Soo Theatre Project any time of the year.
There are classes for all ages from toddlers to adults. From those just learning to hold a paint brush to elementary aged students being on stage for the first time, to seasoned actors and actresses performing in this year’s major musical, “The Music Man,” to those wanting to learn something new, like the cello or violin, in their “golden years,” The Soo Theatre Project definitely knows “Oh What Fun It Is To…Paint, Sing, Dance, Play, and Perform!”
This week (Tuesday, June 21) begins dances lessons by the talented and experienced teacher Alison Cheney. She is offering three levels of ballet classes: Pre-Ballet for Ages 4-6 at 3:30-4:05, Ballet 1 for Ages 7-9 at 4:05-4:50, and Ballet 2 for Ages 10-12 at 4:50-5:35. (Intermediate ballet/pointe class will be offered in July.)
STP knows summer schedules change from the school year and students go on vacations. Multiple week class card options exist for this very reason: 4-week, 6-week, and 8-week cards. Teachers offer flexible summer scheduling to accommodate vacation plans.
NEXT WEEKEND is Shrek, Jr! Shrek knows how to have a good time in his ooey, gooey, and slug-infested swamp. He’s quite happy until he meets Fiona and has to embark on a quest in unknown territory. Come next weekend, Friday and Saturday, June 24, 25 to experience Shrek in a whole new way as STP’s Stars Youth Theatre Group performs “Shrek, Jr. The Musical.”
Just what is the Stars Youth Theatre Group? These actresses and actors range from elementary aged students to middle school to high school. This is purposely designed so that the veteran student performers can show the younger ones how it’s done. Dottie Case and Lisa Justin understand this very well and cherishes the learning that takes place from student to student.
Inexperienced actors and actresses are encouraged for this wonderful performance opportunity to “get their feet wet.”. First time students are welcome. Middle and high school students register for a two-week camp that began June 13. Elementary students participate for a one-week camp that began June 20.
Performances are Friday, June 24 at 7 pm and Saturday, June 25 at 2 pm on STP’s historic stage. Each summer these talented kids present a wonderful show and this summer season will be no different. Come out and support these blossoming performers!
And, just how to painters, drawers, and sketchers begin their artistic journeys? With the Elementary-Aged Art Camp, of course! All materials will be provided for the students as they are taught by the wonderfully patient local artist Randy Krause. She will teach a variety of art including painting with watercolors and acrylics as well as composition, color coordination, and brush techniques. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, June 27, 29, and July 1 from 1-3 pm is the Elementary-Aged Art Camp. Register for this camp by calling the STP office.
Be like Shrek…explore unknown territory, meaning try something new or expand upon what you already know, and you may just find something wonderful for yourself. And, do it this summer before the snow returns because “Oh What Fun It Is To…Paint, Sing, Dance, Play, and Perform at STP!”
