On Sunday, November 22 at 3p.m., STARS music students will be presenting a solo vocal and instrumental recital at Central Methodist Church at 111 E. Spruce Street in Sault Ste. Marie. The performance will showcase high school senior Gabbie Pepin.
The Soo Theatre Project will be hosting a Taco Fundraiser to benefit the Soo Theatre on Monday, December 7th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Elk’s. Tickets will be $8 and will go on sale starting November 30th at the Soo Theatre Office. Patrons can dine in or grab and go, as we will be doing take out orders as well! Jim Taylor, English and Drama teacher from Rudyard Schools, will be there as Señor Santa and Tom Ewing will be taking pictures with Santa for $2. Don’t miss this evening of food and fun. Special performances will include some dance and music by Stars performers.
Sault native, Mike McCarthy, will be doing a book signing for his book ”The Sounds and Smells of My Childhood” on Saturday, December 5th from 10a.m. to noon. Come out and meet the author at this very special event. All proceeds from the sale of ”The Sounds and Smells of My Childhood” will go to benefit the Soo Theatre. Stay tuned for next week’s feature article on why the Soo Theatre was chosen as the local organization to receive the funds from the book sales.
Later in the evening on December 5th at 7:30p.m. STARS orchestras, students and faculty will be participating in “A Laker Christmas” at the LSSU Arts Center. LSSU and Soo Theatre faculty members Karen Hughes Beacom and Dottie Case, who direct the LSSU Chorus and Band, as well as teaching for the Soo Theatre, bring together the community at large for this special Christmas concert each year. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door. Children 5 and under are free.
The Annual Tour of Homes and Tea plans are underway for this annual Soo holiday tradition. The tour runs on Sunday, December 13th from 1-4p.m. with the tea from 2-5p.m. This year’s tea will be held at Faith Lutheran Church at 1600 Park Street. Great holiday music will be presented by New Horizon’s Strings, vocalists and more. Tickets for this event can be purchased at the Soo Theatre.
STARS students will wrap up the Holiday Season at Central Methodist Church with their Christmas Recitals on Friday, December 18th at 5p.m. and 7p.m. Celebrate the musical joys of the season with us at these special events.
