STP Students Express Gratitude

By Lizabeth Jenkins-Dale

Last Sunday’s article expressed the loving appreciation that parents have for The Soo Theatre Project. Many expressed not only thankfulness for the classes and instructors, but the entire package – the welcoming and hospitable environment into which families enter each week for lessons in dance, theatre, art, voice, piano, and strings.

This week’s focus is the students. What do they say about STP? How does STP improve their lives? After the tear-jerking comments of last week, the comments in this week’s article are going to break down all the walls holding back the tears!

The Soo Theatre Project means the world to me. I have been working with STP for about eight years now. With the Soo Theatre and STARS, I have learned how to sing, how to act, how to dance, and most importantly, how to express myself. It has been an incredible experience meeting new people and seeing all the amazing talent that the Sault and the surrounding area have to offer. I’ve made countless friendships over the years in that worn-down old theatre. I grew up in there! I’m not looking forward to the day when I have to leave it behind.

I am thankful for my vocal teacher, Karen Hughes Beacom, and everyone who works at The Soo Theatre Project because they always have smiling faces. They obviously enjoy what they do and this makes me enjoying singing even more. I like contributing to STP by singing for special events such as the donor thank-you party in October and the upcoming LSSU Christmas Concert in December. Overall, my experience is remarkable.

STARS is one of the greatest parts of my life. It allows me to easily express myself, and I always enjoy my time there.

The Soo Theatre has been my second home for eight years of my life. The people I’ve met and the experiences I’ve had have helped to shape me into the person I am today. I will always be grateful to STARS for this, and I will forever treasure the memories I have made with them.

It is clear from these students’ comments that The Soo Theatre Project is so much more than a building in which lessons are taught, but is a “second home” filled with “smiling faces” and an extended family who supports, loves, and nurtures. This enables students such as Eric and Holly “to express myself” and students like Gabbie and Holly to feel like they “grew up” in The Soo Theatre Project after utilizing STP’s offerings for nearly a decade each.

Come and join all the artistic goodness happening on a daily basis at The Soo Theatre Project. You are welcome to register for a class at any time. Allow your creative side, and your child’s creative abilities, to be developed by talented teachers!
