It may not be summer yet in Sault Sainte Marie, but the summer season of The Soo Theatre Project is well on its way.

A
Beauty and the Beast Jr. at the Soo Theatre

Parents, family members, and friends poured into the historic theater to see Beauty and the Beast Jr. for each of its three performances. Fifty-three students aged third grade to high school performed with passion and tremendous talent.

Then, lots of fun was to be had at the first of five “Raise The Roof” concerts during which the fantastic band Orangrinders played for enthusiastic crowds both Friday and Saturday night.

What’s up next? Lots because The Soo Theatre Project is just getting started!

Tomorrow, Sunday, is the Festival Orchestra Concert which will include over 100 adult and student performers from both sides of the river and multiple schools here in The Soo. Performance begins at 4 pm on the STP stage.

“We Got The Beat” is the theme of this year’s annual dance recital to be held at the Kewadin Dream Makers Theatre Sunday, May 14 at 2 pm. Be dazzled as you watch your community’s dancers perform!

Love to hear those familiar and well-loved songs from Grease? Do song titles “Grease Lightning!” or “Summer Nights” or “You’re The One That I Want” immediate make your feet start tapping, your mind flash movie scenes, and your mouth begin humming the tunes?

This May 20, 21, 22 you can watch the movie Grease at The Soo Theatre Project as part of the 50’s Weekend event.

The first weekend in June is the annual barbershop show featuring both the Northland Barbershop Chorus and the Lock Cities Chorus. Come hear these fabulous singers harmonize their voices unlike any other show this summer! Saturday, June 4 at 7 pm.

KISS will be in town June 11th! Well…a KISS tribute band, but it still will totally rock! Come and enjoy, dress up if you’d like, for this amazing event at The Soo Theatre Project.

STP always kicks off “Music In The Park” free concert series. Reserve June 15 at 7 pm on your calendar because you’ll hear from many of the Soo Theatre Project fabulous singers, players, and dancers. It’s guaranteed to hear previews from The Music Man!

Then two days later, Friday, June 17, the band Dragon Wagon will be here to entertain you as part of the “Raise The Roof” concerts.

The Soo Theatre Project is already enrolling students in the many summer camps such as the two week camp for Shrek, Jr. and the one week camp for Pirates!. Both of these camps’ performances are in June. (See poster).

The Music Man musical’s preparations are already underway with the cast nearly set. (Cast announcement will be made next weekend.) The Music Man will be performed July 14, 15, 16, 17 this summer. What a wonderful event it will be!

STP is looking for a stage manager and a rehearsal accompanist for The Music Man production. If interested, contact Karen Hughes Beacom at 906-632-1930 for more information.
