While directors, actors, actresses, stage technicians, office staff, and teachers prepare for upcoming musicals such as “Shrek, Jr.” and “Music Man,” there is so much more happening at The Soo Theatre Project at the same time!
For example, last night was the first night of the 50’s Weekend. It included a 50’s dress-up parade at 6:30, the movie “Grease” at 7:00, and then the movie “Purple Rain” at 9:30. It’s a double feature special event! Tonight is another opportunity for you to enjoy it all over again: 6:30 50’s dress-up parade, 7:30 “Grease” movie, and 9:30 “Purple Rain” movie for $8 per person. $5 for only one of the movies. Popcorn and water will be available for sale. See the attached poster for more information.
Two specialized local choruses are making preparations for the annual barbershop performance the first weekend in June. Northland Barbershop Chorus, a men’s group with members from both Canada and USA, and Lock Cities Chorus, a women’s group with members from both Canada and USA, will perform Saturday, June 4 at 7 pm.
Northland Barbershop Chorus’ performance is titled, “Laughter and Love Songs.” Lock Cities Chorus’ performance is titled, “Harmony House.” These two barbershop choruses blend voice, acting, and performance creatively to provide the audience two tantalizing experiences in one night. Tremendous talent combined with humor make for a wonderful experience this June 4.
A KISS tribute band will be in town Saturday, June 11 for a one-night-only performance! This is another not-to-miss event and is the second of the five “Raise The Roof” concert series.
The Soo Theatre Project once again begins the community “Music In The Park” free concert series this June 15th. You’ll hear songs from STP’s upcoming musicals and more.
Dragon Wagon, a bluegrass band based in Ann Arbor and the third of five “Raise The Roof” concerts, will be performing Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18.
The Soo Theatre Project’s STARS Youth Theatre group will present “Shrek, Jr. The Musical” June 24 and 25. Students from elementary school to high school will participate in a two-week camp. What an exceptional experience for young actors and actresses to learn stage presence, terminology, and functionality from the older, experienced actors and actresses. Call the STP office to register your child.
Looking further into the summer…
