Want excellent dancewear? Second Skin Shop from Marquette will be at The Soo Theatre Project’s Dance Studio E (across the street from the theatre’s main office) on Thursday, September 5. The “store” will be open from 3:30 p.m. until approximately 8 p.m.
The Sault Symphony Orchestra will be performing on Saturday, September 28, at 8 p.m. Kaleidoscope is the theme of the evening. As the theme indicates, it will offer contrasting musical selections – just as a kaleidoscope offers many different views with the slightest touch. The contrast adds a creative element to the evening since one piece will vary dramatically from the next piece. For example, after a symphonic piece, a jazz piece may follow, then a vocal piece.
Attendees can expect to hear favorite excerpts from previously performed musicals and operas on The Soo Theatre Project’s historic stage such as Fiddler On The Roof, South Pacific, Carousel, The Marriage of Figaro, and Hansel and Gretel. The audience will have auditory and visual delight as a full symphony, which includes members of the The Soo Theatre Project’s STARS Advanced Youth Orchestra and The New Horizons Strings Group, presents its talent! Tickets will be available at the door.
The 6th annual Rotary Show of Shows is Sunday, October 6, beginning at 2 p.m. Returning to the stage with increasing popularity after originating in 2008, the Sault Ste. Marie Rotary Club and the Chippewa Sunrise Rotary Club sponsor the Rotary Show of Shows to provide the community two things: to enjoy talent and to be the talent! Local entertainers, singers, dancers, actors, and much, much more will amuse the audience in variety show style. Previous shows have included performers from The Soo Theatre Project’s Footlight Dancers, and STARS dancers, singers, and musicians, as well as performers from LSSU and Sault Area Schools. Rotarians have been known to prepare and perform skits, too!
Tickets for the Rotary Show of Shows will soon be available. Money raised from this event goes to the Rotary Clubs to support a special fund devoted to promoting the arts.
After great success last year, The Soo Theatre Project is proud to offer a “Haunted Theatre” on Friday, October 25 starting at 5 p.m. during The Downtown Development Authority’s Trick or Treating event! Enter the old historic theatre for a haunted experience unlike any other!
With temperatures in the 80s, it’s difficult to imagine cooler weather, but snow will be here sooner than later. Make these next two events a special part of enjoying Sault Ste. Marie’s winter wonderland: The Christmas Concert at the LSSU Arts Center on Saturday, December 7, and The Holiday Tour of Homes and Tea on Sunday, December 15. Both of these events bring out the magic of the holiday season.
The Soo Theatre Project is a busy place filled with creative people affectionately conveying life through artistic expression. This is quite evident from the steady stream of youngsters of all ages entering the building each day, the full roster of classes, and the ongoing schedule of performances.
Yes, The Soo Theatre Project never stops!
