There always something for everyone at The Soo Theatre Project…especially this summer. In addition to the fabulous summer season of musicals, live concerts, classes, and performances, STP offers amazing summer camps and lessons.
For the elementary, middle, and high school kids, there’s the production of Shrek, Jr. The Musical being performed June 24 and 25 after a one week (elementary students) and two-week camp (middle and high school students). The lovable, huggable, yet disgusting character of Shrek is back! Follow Shrek and Fiona’s love story through the problematic challenges and humorous situations they face along with their faithful friends, Donkey and Dragon. It’s sure to be a marvelous performance!
Pirates! Who doesn’t love a pirate-themed performance especially when your child can BE a pirate in the show? Come see the performance July 22 after a one-week camp for elementary school students. Can you just hear all the, “Arrrgggghs” now?
How about giving your child (or yourself) the life-long gift of strings lessons this summer? Violin or cello – your choice! Beginning strings camp is July 11-15 and July 18-22. 10 am to 11 am 3-7 graders. 11 am to 12 pm 8 graders to adult. Learn to play this summer!
Take your voice to the next level with the Vocal and Opera Workshop July 25 to 29 with a performance “Vocal Gala” July 29. Learn from professional opera singers in this special opportunity. Mezzo soprano Molly Dahlberg and tenor Travis Richter will lead the week long workshop. Richter and Dahlberg will both be performing in “The Barber of Seville” in August. Richter will also serve as chorus master for the production.
It’s back by popular demand! The pre-school music, art, and theatre camp returns again this summer. Provide your child with exposure to multiple forms of art by the talented teachers at Soo Theatre Project. August 1-4 9am to 12 pm.
In addition to these camps, dance lessons are available by STP’s dance teacher, Alison Cheney. Her dance background is impressive: “Alison has always loved dance! She started at the age of five when her parents enrolled her at Mt. Laurel Regional Ballet Co. and she also took gymnastics, later on deciding to choose ballet. Her family moved a lot so she was experienced in participating at different studios and companies. To name a few, Joffrey Ballet, NYC, Coupe’ Dance Studio, Nanuet, New York, under the training of Ms. Diane Frankle, director and owner, Madame Nanette Charise, Robert Tucker both well known choreographers and instructors, Lynne Glauber, principal dancer for Joffrey Ballet, and Sherry Walsh Dance Academy, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, owner and instructor. She now resides with her family in Rudyard and has been teaching dance to all ages for 16 years. She has taught in the surrounding areas, and also for C.C.S.S and Just Dance.”
Do you like receiving two for the price of one? Saturday, June 4, you can hear not just one, but two amazing choruses sing barbershop: The Northland Barbershop Chorus and The Lock Cities Chorus. Uniquely blending barbershop with theatre, these two groups are returning to STP’s historic stage for a one-night-only performance. It’s not to miss!
Get your tickets now for the KISS tribute band concert June 11. It’s going to be a rocking good time! This is the second of five “Raise The Roof” concerts this summer at STP.
