350th Musical Celebration

350th Musical Celebration

The Soo 350th Musical Celebration will be held at the Soo Theatre on Thursday, June 21 at 7:30pm. Finalists from the Soo Songwriting Contest will perform, along with other songs about “Home.” Hosts for the evening will be Karen Hughes Beacom, Tom Ewing, Tom Lehman, and Mark SanAngelo. It will be an evening FULL of music, tales, stories, and fun, all celebrating the heritage and history of Sault Sainte Marie.

Soo Songwriting Winners to be Announced!

Soo Theatre and The Sault Events teamed up to host a songwriting contest in celebration of the 350th! The songwriting contest was announced in April and entries were submitted by May 31st. There were many entries and each one was unique and inspiring. Our judges, Nancy Kirkpatrick (Soo Theatre Board Member and active in Soo Theatre musicals and operas and Sweet Adeline’s), Justin Knepper (Downtown Development Authority), and Lisa Justin (Sault high school’s drama and choir teacher), listened to the recordings, read the lyrics and tallied votes. Finalists were chosen and notified. The finalists will either be performing or have their songs performed or played at the 350th Musical Celebration this Thursday night. But that is where we need your help! The audience will vote on their favorites to help determine the winner at the Thursday night event! The Sault Events donated the following prizes: $100 to the first place song, $70 to the second place song, and $35 to the third place song. Come cheer on your fellow friends and local musicians and help us choose the next song for Sault Sainte Marie!

In addition to the songwriting finalists, there will be several other historic songs about the Soo performed and other local talent singing songs about home. Stories and poems about the area may be read and the evening will focus on the history of this place we call home.

Tickets for the 350th Musical Celebration are $15 for adults, $10 for students, and a special $5 ticket for STARS students. Help us fill the auditorium in celebration of a wonderful city and heritage.
