GROUP CLASSES AND PERFORMING GROUPS Begin This Week at STP!

Sign up today for music, art and enrichment classes all being offered at the Soo Theatre Project. All of your favorite performing groups and group classes will begin this week on September 26.

Many of our offerings run for the full year with a number of shorter segments running for ten weeks. The ten week blocks allow for students of all ages and experience to try something new. It also is an opportunity to fit lessons around busy school and work schedules.

In addition to the usual Soo Theatre Project offerings, many new classes and groups are being offered for the 201617 year such as strings classes coming to many of our area schools!

The first Ten week session will run from September 26 December 5:

Flute Choir is being offered on Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30pm. This group is for high schoolers and older (younger with instructor approval) and will be led by flutist Meg Stevens.

Youth Chorus will be held from 4:005:00pm on Thursdays. This group is for ages 818 and will cover a wide range of music. Instructors Karen Hughes Beacom and Ronda McGreevy will lead this exciting chorus with emphasis on technique and vocal performance skills.

Tap Dance Class on Tuesday evenings from 6:006:45pm is for adults who want to learn tap dance. Instructor Marian MacLeod will make special accommodations for those with arthritis. Students can order and purchase tap shoes or can plan to wear leather soled shoes to classes.

Vocal Performance Class will be offered Wednesdays from 4:005:00pm and on Thursdays from 2:003:00pm for those available during the day. Led by instructor Karen Hughes Beacom, these classes will focus on performance practice for the solo singer with an emphasis on musical theatre and classical voice. And there are two times to choose from!

Piano Group Class has two levels; one for 810 year olds and one for 11 through adult! Students will gain valuable instruction on proper technique and reading notes and rhythms in a group setting. Both classes are Thursdays, 5:306:15 for the younger class and 6:157:00 for the adult class.

Ukulele Class is for all ages from 13 to adult! Ever been intrigued by this little instrument? Learn basic chords, strumming, and tuning while learning a variety of genres. Don’t have a ukulele? Not a problem. The first class will guide you on how and where to purchase your instrument (which is relatively inexpensive), Tuesdays from 7:308:25.

Beginning Adult String Group is for those adults who want to learn to play violin, viola, cello or bass, in a fun and stressfree group setting. If you are between the ages of 15 and 80, and have always wanted to play, this is your chance. Thursdays, 6:457:30.

After School Strings Classes are coming to you at your child’s own school. STP’s Benjamin Gulder, Dottie Case and Maggie Twining will be teaching at Sault Middle and High School, Lincoln Elementary, Soo Township, Washington Elementary, Rudyard Elementary, Cedarville Schools, and Pickford PAL Center right after school one day a week. Want your child’s school to participate? Contact the STP office or speak with your school’s principal.
